Sims is a village in Wayne County, Illinois, United States. The population was 273 at the 2000 census.

Sims is located at (38.361243, -88.535026).[1]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Sims is also the home of the Sims Rebels MC and Lonzo's Tavern.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 273 people, 102 households, and 77 families residing in the village. The population density was 227.5 people per square mile (87.8/km²). There were 123 housing units at an average density of 102.5 per square mile (39.6/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.17% White, 1.47% African American and 0.37% Asian.

There were 102 households out of which 34.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.0% were married couples living together, 19.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.5% were non-families. 17.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.00.

In the village the population was spread out with 27.8% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 34.1% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.1 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $22,083, and the median income for a family was $21,625. Males had a median income of $22,222 versus $13,542 for females. The per capita income for the village was $10,870. About 28.6% of families and 31.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 50.0% of those under the age of eighteen and 12.0% of those sixty five or over.
